Denzel Washington está comemorando um grande momento para ele e sua fé.

O ator vencedor do Oscar, de 69 anos, foi batizado e recebeu uma licença de ministro na Igreja de Deus de Cristo em Cristo, em Nova York, no sábado, em um culto transmitido no Facebook.

“Celebramos a adição do ministro Denzel Washington ao clero, tendo recebido a licença de seu ministro na Igreja de Deus em Cristo hoje, em um momento verdadeiramente edificante”, escreveu o arcebispo Christopher Bryant no Facebook, onde compartilhou uma foto do batismo de Washington.

Em declarações no final da cerimônia, Washington lembrou como sua mãe lhe disse, "cerca da oitava ou nona vez que perdi um Oscar", que "o homem dá o prêmio, Deus dá a recompensa". Ele passou a lembrar que uma mulher chamada Ruth Green, que era "conhecida por ter o dom de profecia", previu quando tinha 20 anos que ele iria "viajar o mundo e pregar para milhões de pessoas."

“Cinquenta anos depois ... se (Deus) pode fazer isso por mim, não há nada que ele não possa fazer por você”, disse ele. “O céu é literalmente o limite, e não há limite para o céu. Deus é bom o tempo todo”.

 

 

Denzel Washington is celebrating a big moment for him and his faith.

The Oscar-winning actor, 69, was baptized and received a minister's license at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in New York on Saturday in a service broadcast on Facebook.

"We celebrate the addition of Minister Denzel Washington into the clergy, having received his minister's license in the Church of God in Christ today, in a truly uplifting moment," Archbishop Christopher Bryant wrote on Facebook, where he shared a photo of Washington's baptism.

In remarks at the end of the ceremony, Washington remembered how his mother told him, "about the eighth or ninth time I lost an Academy Award," that "man gives the award, God gives the reward." He went on to recall that a woman named Ruth Green, who was "known to have the gift of prophecy," predicted when he was 20 that he would "travel the world and preach to millions of people."

"Fifty years later ... if (God) can do this for me, there's nothing he can't do for you," he said. "The sky literally is the limit, and there's no limit to the sky. God is good all the time."
